With the transition to High School only weeks away, Room 3 of Pukekohe Intermediate organised and ran a Year 8 Careers Day. Workers from across the district with exciting jobs travelled to our school on Thursday the 19th of November. Each student attended 3 lectures from the employers, 1 for each periodical block (2 periods). The employers gave careers on how their job works, what their day involves and how to get a job in that industry.
I visited Mark Ball the Mayor, Reon Graham Director of Sales at EMI Music, and Sam from Franklin County News.
All speakers were informative, and gave students a clear view of possible career options.

With Christmas coming fast room 23 has formed a Christmas party comity to plan out our class Christmas party coming up on Tuesday the 8th of December. The comity is Danelle (leader), Me, Lachlan, Sophie, Bailee, Shannon, Leota and Danielle. We have been having meetings to plan food, dress and decorations. The comity is working well together and we are hoping that the Christmas party will run well.

Walking into the hall for the first stepz lesson, everyone looked anxious and rather scared. No one was looking forward to dancing with a boy. But once the music started, and Simon taught us the dances, everyone forgot the first thought of fear and let loose. Now every student looks forward to the Friday lessons and cant wait til the Ball.
All these practices are a lead up to the Year 8 Leavers Social, which we will perform the 9 dances we've learnt.
The Year 8 Leavers Social will be on Wednesday 9th of December, and the decided theme is Glitz and Glam.

Athletics Day
On the 13th of November Pukekohe Intermediate had their Competitive athletics day at Growers Stadium and the fun athletics day back at school. We walked over to the stadium and sat in the stand waiting for our events to be called up. I entered the senior girls 100m and senior girls long jump i placed 4th in both events. It was a long day but everyone did their best and most came in a good placing. At the end of the day there was one event that was still running and that was the senior girls high jump with Olivia Willetts and Grace Gill playing off for 1st and 2nd. Grace ended up with first place and Olivia took second. Grace broke the record and jumped an amazing 1.56m, overall it was a great day and most people were happy with their placings.

Website Design
As part of Music Inquiry we got given an authentic challenge to create a website of ourselves as a popstar. We had to come up with a name and write about our life and our career. We had a dead line to complete our website. A handfill of us entered our website in the Net Guide schools muiltimedia challenge. The programmes i used to complete me website were piknic, word, weebly, i-tunes and photo booth. My website is completed.

Science Fair Rubric

Category: Research Science Board
Title/Topic: Animation
Buddies: Danelle Cox and Bailee Graham
Overall Score: 80/100 Acheived with Merit
Learnt: We learnt we need to work well as a team to acheive to a high standard. We also learnt that we need to plan out what we are doing, before going ahead with the idea.
Changes: Change of topic, Optical Illussions to Animation.
Decision Making: We had to decide on the colour palette and what graphics we wished to print, which was quite difficult to all agree on the same thing.
There is the School Science Fair in the Hall running through week 3- Same time as the Three Way Confrences.
Fonterra Science Roadshow
On the 20th of July our class went to the Fonterra Scoence Roadshow in our school hall. At the beginning of the show we all sat down on the floor to watch a slide and 3 volenteers go up and did a play. In the play we learnt about matter, energy and life. Then they gave us 30 minutes to walk around and had a look at the exibits. There were many different experiments. After the 30 minutes we all sat down again for another show. We learnt about the sound of waves and the science of sound.
Over all it was a great time and most of us enjoyed it.

Hard Materials
Hard Materials
Every Day 3 during P1 and 2, half of room 23 go to hard materials. Mr Sibley is our awesome hard materials teacher. He has taught us all of the safety rules and much more. So far into the term we have made a wooden animal or something that has wheels. The skills we learnt while making them were how to use a saw, drill holes and scroll sawing.
Everyone was successful with making this project. Our next project that we have almost finished is to make a wooden box. The skills we have learnt so far is how to hammer nails, gluing and we also are using skills that we already know. Everyone who goes to hard materials is having fun and really enjoying it. We can’t wait till next year so we can go there again.

The teams were entered as buddy classes for the competition, and a maximum of 16 team players were able to take the court at once. Lupe Soapi of Room 23, and Abi Chapman of Room 36 were our team captains.
Students from the 2 teams played a number of games against a lot of challenging classes, playing a total of 3 games, making it into the quarter finals! In this game we went up against Room 13 & 45 and successfully came out with victory, which then took us into the Semi-finals.
Our first semi-final game was on Tuesday 16th on June and versed the same 2 classes. We had a really tough game and the weather was really rough, but even though we had to put up with that, Room 23 & 36 still came out with a win.
Wednesday 17th of June we played against Room 28 & 45. It was a very tough competition. But we pulled through with a win.
Science Fair
On Friday the 26th of June science Fairs were due in. There were a few different projects that you could enter in. Most people entered in photography where you need to take 10 photos, this year your photos had to have something to do with water. Some people did their projects on types of water, beaches of NZ, water resources, waves, whangamata and cycles of water. I did mine on frozen water on nature. We had to make a log book with captions for each image. Some students worked with a partner and some did it individually. We have 19 finished projects in the class room and they are all up to a high standard.

Jonny's Mistake

As Jonny arrives in Auckland airport he wounder how his life will change going to a New Zealand school and not knowing anyone. It is just Mum and Jonny living together because mum and dad split up a month ago and mum needed to go as far away as possible from him. Dad still lives in England by himself. Jonny is really confused and doing things that he has never done before like running away.
“Jonny you start Pukekohe Intermediate School tomorrow so get your stuff ready,” says mum. Jonny had no friends in England so he is ready to do make new ones and is prepared to do anything to get some. Jonny enters the school gate with his mum holding his hand as they walk down to the office to collect his stationary and his class number and his teacher’s name. “Bye Jonny” says mum and she gives him a hug and a kiss and says goodbye.
Jonny walks down the hallway while students are laughing at him because they saw him with his mum holding her hand. “Hey mummy’s boy” yells the school bully Jared. Jonny tries hard to ignore him but he cant, he jumps on Jared and starts to kick and punch him. Jared falls on the ground and Jonny runs to his new classroom.
“Everyone this is Jonny and he will be joining our class he is from England so you have to be nice to him” says the teacher. At morning tea all the kids were teasing him again so he decided that he would spent all of his brakes in the library. As Jonny walks out of the library he get pushed into the middle of a circle of year 8’s. He comes out with cuts and bruises all over his body.
He walks home and decides that he is not going to tell any one. He gets home and looks for something that will make him popular he finds something. He gets to school and pulls it out it is a lighter. Hey boy if you do this for me I will be your friend and he whispers what he wants him to do.
Him and the boy go into the dark cubicles and Jonny puts the lighter up to the smoke alarm and it goes off. Jonny and the boy run out of the toilets and hide around the corner. The wait until all the classes are lining up ready to walk to the field, the run into their class line and walk to the field.
The principle stands up the front. “Who did this?” he yells slowly Jonny rises his hand. All rite then all of you go back to your classroom. “You” he says come to my office and collect a slip for your mum.
He goes to his office and gets the note. He walks home as slowly as he can. When he gets home he gives the note to his mum and she slowly reads it. “That’s it she says you are going to a new school and you have to leave this so called friend.”
