My Email

Hello my name is Tegan and I am a year 7 student at Pukekohe Intermediate School. I have been studying the Maui’s Dolphin for a while now. I have been researching information and I have come across some interesting facts about the decline of the Maui’s Dolphin population. I have written this letter to ask you to help us save the Maui’s Dolphins. I have been even more interested in this because I live not far away from where they live. Maui's Dolphins live on the West Coast of the North Island around Sunset Beach and Port Waikato. This is the closest habitat to me.

There are so many things we can do to stop Maui’s Dolphins from becoming extinct. We can put up signs where Maui’s live so Fishermen are warned that there is a rare Dolphin living in these waters, we can band certain nets set around their habitat. One of the main reasons Maui’s are getting killed is people on boats come too close to Maui’s and don’t turn their engines off and they get hit by the propellers, people also cut off their fishing lines into the water when their lines are tangelled and Maui’s Dolphins get caught in it. Plastic Bags are another issue of the killing of Maui’s Dolphins they get attracted to them and eat them, and then the Maui’s get sick and will likely die. We should put all litter in the bins and BAND PLASTIC BAGS.

Pukekohe Intermediate are going to make a mural about Maui’s Dolphins to show the public how rare and important Maui’s are to New Zealand (Maui’s are not found any where else in the world). You can Adopt a Dolphin to help save them it is just $30 and you give it a name for the year and get a Maui’s Dolphin soft toy. We don’t have very long there are approamitly 111 Maui’s left we have round about 30 years to stop them from getting extinct.

I hope that you put a lot of thought into what I have said and send something back.

Yours Sincerely

Tegan

Contributions to my School

This year I have been involved in many extra curriculum activities such as: Wearable Arts, Zone netball, Inter zone Netball, Coca Cola Netball, Writing Workshop, competitive Athletics, cross country, 5 Sports Mentions and 4 Merit Mentions. This is what I have done this year and this list will grow next year.

The Maui's Dolphin

My class have been researching the Maui's Dolphins. Victoria from WWF came into our class and she taught us some very interesting facts about them like there are only around 111 Maui's left. They are only found in New Zealand so we really need to save them. I have am really interested in Maui's Dolphins because of what i have learnt over the time that we have been reaserching them and I really hope they stay in New Zealand for a long time.

Being in a Digital Classroom

My name is Tegan and i am very lucky because i am in the only Digital Classroom in my school. We have 16 apple computers and we learn a lot of things that we can use in the future when we get jobs. We are very lucky to get the opportunity to be in this classroom next year which most of us have said that we would love to so we can learn more challenging things. Most of us share a computer with a buddy. We change our seats around once a term so we all get a turn in front of a computer. Next year the people that stay in this classroom will be designing websites and updating our school website. We have quite strict rules about what we can and can't do on the computers and what not to click into on the web, and that we have to be careful with where we eat and drink around the computers. We do most of our work on the computers instead of doing it all in our books. When our teacher is trying to show us something to do on the computers she will project it up on the white wall so we can follow what she is doing. My classroom is becoming really good at using these computers. We have learnt short cuts to copy, paste, save, print and much more using the command key then a number or letter. We use a bookmarking system to bookmark pages to get to them quickly and we save all of our work to the home directory and you can open your work from all of the computers. I really enjoy being in a computer classroom and i hope that i have a good time next year.
